Ganton Ladies - Scratch Team Champions 2021

Ganton Ladies have won the YLCGA Inter-Club Scratch Team Finals after beating Ilkley and Hallamshire in the semi-finals and finals held at Hessle Golf Club on Wednesday 8th September 2021.

The morning matches against Ilkley were played with great spirit, great passion and true camaraderie. First player to reach their win was Millie Russell with a score of 8 and 6 the biggest win in all four group semi finals and the final!  Quickly followed by a win from Pat Smillie with 6 and 5, then Amy Staveley 3 and 1 and Sara Gilmore with 2 and 1.

Team Captain Denise could set off on the buggy and call the other three matches in.  Sitting in the clubhouse with refreshments it was a long wait to find how the other semi final was going along. Hallamshires third match had to go to the 19th hole to settle the score at 4 and 3 against Headingley.

The afternoon was even warmer 27 degrees with the breeze picking up slightly, after seeing all 7 matches off Vice Captain Louella went across to the 9th green for on course scores and Captain Denise across to the 6th. Our Whats App groups had hole by hole, game by game updates!  The camaraderie continued with our Ganton on course supporters being joined by the players, caddies and supporters from Ilkley, which made the afternoon such a wonderful celebration of golf.

At the 9th all the matches in the terrific Ganton squad were up. On Course scoring moved on to the 12th & 14th greens and in rapid succession the team recorded the 4 necessary wins , Amy 4 and 3, Sara, Naomi and Pat all with 6 and 5 wins. Off on the buggy again to call the three matches in. Such excitement..... tales of almost Eagles, Chipping in and puts that just fell in!  It was very Jubilant!

The formal presentation saw Ganton collecting the Brough Trophy as the Scratch League Top Qualifier and then the Scratch Championship Trophy.  Speeches over, it was the time for bubbles and photographs.
